Finished dressing table

here's the dressing table I posted a picture of last week, looking smart in it's new colours

after a thorough sanding I painted it in a couple of coats primer and two coats of emulsion (latex). Thought the blue would make a change.
Then it was lightly distressed by sanding by hand

The top was sanded back then given three coats of acrylic varnish and waxed. Then I gave the paintwork two coats of wax, I love the finish it gives, didn't realise you could wax over paint and get such a lovely finish!
I've been really inspired by all the great items I've seen in the blogs so hopefully I'll be able to paint many more in the future, can't wait for the next one!

  3. Hi, Thanks both for your comments! charl, these are the first pieces I have painted, the first one is sold and the dressing table is on ebay as we speak! I am a decorator by trade so this is just a sideline but I really enjoy it and hope to do a lot more. And by the way the furniture on your blog looks pretty good to me!

  4. hi Pete - Thanks for following my blog - i've just linked up to yours also. Did you see the dresser I've just finished also - not the union jack one but the damask -posted a few days ago. So similar in shape to this one.
Enjoy the painting and blogging - it's very addictive!

  5. Pete - feel free to take anything as inspiration - as far as i'm concerned that's half of what blogging is all about (although I always give credit where it's due) It's great sharing all that creativity!. Chck out the Graphics Fairy also. she's got some great designs for painting onto furniture.
    cheers Fiona
